Question 1

Do I need to be tech-savvy to use a smart home?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. We design everything to be simple, set it up for you, and walk you through how it works. Most of it runs in the background, and you control the rest from your phone, a wall tablet, or your voice.

Question 2

Does my smart home need an internet connection to work?

Accepted Answer

No. We build around Home Assistant, which runs locally in your home, so your core automations, lighting, and locks keep working even if the internet goes down. Remote access from your phone uses the internet, but the home itself does not depend on it.

Question 3

What is Home Assistant, and why do you use it?

Accepted Answer

Home Assistant is a powerful open-source platform that ties all of your devices together in one place. We use it because it runs locally, has no monthly fees, and does not lock you into a single brand, so your system stays flexible as your needs change.

Question 4

Are there monthly fees or subscriptions?

Accepted Answer

There are no required subscriptions for the core system. Because everything runs locally on Home Assistant, your automations work without an ongoing bill. Optional cloud services exist if you want them, but they are never required.

Question 5

Can I start small and add to it later?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Many homeowners start with one area, like lighting or door locks, then expand over time. We design every system to grow with you, so adding devices later is simple.

Question 6

How much does a smart home setup cost?

Accepted Answer

Small jobs are welcome and priced up front. Switch installation starts at $150 for the first switch and $100 for each additional switch on the same visit, and smart door lock installation starts at $199 including the lock. Larger projects depend on your home, so we quote them for free after the consultation, and you decide how much to do now versus later. You can see the details on our services page.

Question 7

What areas do you serve?

Accepted Answer

We are locally owned and serve homeowners within about a 30-mile radius of St. Louis, Missouri. If you are not sure whether you are in range, just give us a call.

Question 8

What happens if something stops working?

Accepted Answer

We are a call away. Many issues we can fix remotely, and we come on-site when needed. Ongoing support is part of how we work, not an afterthought.
